Bincho - Thumbs Up!
For someone who isn't a big fan of Japanese food, I have to say this relaxed little place on a street of fairly mediocre restaurants really impressed. Their speciality food is skewers of coal-grilled meats, fish and vegetables known as 'yakitori'. And boy, does it taste good!
My family and I were seated just to the rear of a bar, with a small kitchen behind, from gorgeous aromas were rising. It was fairly low-lit and small, but this just added to relaxed, bistro-style feel to the place. In the background was calm, quiet music. To start off, as always, we ordered drinks, and my dad was impressed by the Sake and Japanese Craft Beers on the list! I stuck to a fail-free coke.
After we'd had our drinks, we decided to order some food. The menu was fairly long and everything on it sounded delicious. The food they served was a sort of Japanese tapas, with plenty of small dishes. We ordered: Salmon yakitori, chicken yakitori, chicken skin yakitori (Right?), and other dishes. When it came it was glorious. There was delicious Shiitake mushroom skewers, wonderful mushroom sticky rice and a delicious type of Japanese fried chicken called Kara-Age, which I'd highly recommend. The chicken breast was tender and in a tasty miso marinade, and the chicken skin was crunchy but a little salty for me. There was also tasty but secretly spicy Korean chicken wings in a chilli sauce. It was a fantastic meal!
For dessert my mother and I shared a White Chocolate, Green Tea and Yuzu Slice, which was divine! It was punchy, creamy and light, the perfect end to a tasty meal. And my overall scoring:
